6/17/2012: Huennekens Street Criterium
One of the safest criterium courses in the known universe, this 0.7-mile near-oval starts out on a very slight decline, then eases through a gentle U-shaped corner before heading very slightly up and through another gentle right. The final corner is sharp enough to cause prudent people to slow, but the start/finish line is a short sprint away, so the top finishers will have bike skills and a good sprint.

Meet at Poinsettia Village Starbucks in Carlsbad at 8:00 for a sign- in, then ride over to the start/finish point at Huennekens Street in time to sign in anyone who wants to meet there. After the event we’ll meet for coffee and story telling.

Point System
Points will be awarded for placings in each category for the overall
series. 10 points will be awarded to the winner of each category, then
8, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2 points for places 2-7. All riders will receive at
least 1 point for participating.

Categories
The three categories are designed to keep similarly-paced riders
together. “A” is very fast (generally category 1-2 and fast 3s). “B”
is still a quick bunch (generally, career 3-4 riders). And the “C”
group is designed for riders who enjoy Swami’s club rides but don’t
normally compete. If you’re not sure in which category you should
ride, err on the side of the faster group. You can always ease up
until the next category catches you.
