And we are back!

After a 2 year hiatus, one of the most fun days you will ever have on a bike is back. Yes, we have brought back the iconic Swami's Poker Ride.

What is the Swami's Poker Ride?

It is one part fun ride or for some one part race, one part scavenger hunt, one part team time trial, one part poker game with a little dirt and steep hill or two mixed in for good measure.

Oh yes there is great food, delicious Sam Adams Beer and fun for all at the finish.

How does it work?

1) Sign up. Swami's members have free admission. FOS - Friends of Swami's pay $10.

2) Form up in to 4 (Four) person teams. Your team can be all boyz, all girlz, boyz and girlz, transgendered, not sure, unspecified or unaffiliated. All that matters is that there is 4 (four) of you. Hint: Plan on spending the day riding with you and your 3 new (or old) teammates.

The Ride:

From the start you and your 3 buddies (i.e. your team) will start together and ride to the first of three  checkpoints. The location of the first checkpoint is unknown until you receive general directions from the starter. In addition to general directions you will receive one playing card to start your teams poker hand. Teams are launched / start every couple of minutes.

Your team then proceeds to checkpoint 1, you can take any route to the checkpoint. If you or one of your teammates knows a short cut, take it! It does not mater what route your team takes, all that matters is that you (eventually) get to CP1.

Upon arriving at CP1 your team will receive your next playing card for your poker hand and general directions to the next CP. The team then proceeds to CP2. At  CP2 the team gets another card and general directions to  CP3. At CP3 the team gets yet another card and directions back to the finish line.

Once at the finish line the team gets a final card and then presents their poker hand to the event director.

Teams will be awarded prizes for fastest time, and best poker hand.

For the rest of us there will be plenty of other prizes and awards for teams with "distinctive" performances. Remember each of you are special snowflakes worthy of recognition even though you are no where near as fast or as smart as the winners, just know you are still special just like mom says.

Each snowflake errr...  team member will also be entered in to the general prize raffle.

Prizes, fun, Food, Beer, Wine and Fun!

Notional Rules:

#1 - There really aren't any rules, merely suggestions of procedure or guidance.

#2 - There is no official route between checkpoints. Routes between checkpoints is basically a free for all. Make a route as you go, or maybe follow the team in front of you.  Use "Strategery".  Rule #1 applies.

#3 - In order to receive your teams poker card and general directions at CP1, CP2 or CP3, etc... All 4 (four) team members must check in at the same time. Rule #1 does not apply here.

#4 - Stacking the deck, bringing your own poker cards, or other forms of treachery are encouraged.

Do you have to ride with your team the whole way?

No, you do not have to, you can drop the slower, less fit members of you team and steam roll your way to the next CP, you can even join a different team. But once at the CP you and the team you started with will not get a card or general directions until ALL four of you show up 'together'.
